UI/UX Case Study: Infinite Joy Digital Invitation
For Your Information
This is my personal project. Has nothing to do with any organization/company. The purpose of creating this study case is to explore my skills in the UI/UX field.
Halo, I’m Syifa! as a UI/UX Design Enthusiast, I’m here trying to explore things that I can use as material for my portfolio. I will write down the research process for designing Digital Invitation Mobile App in this case study.
Background
Currently, distributing event invitations traditionally is rarely done, and people are considering sending event invitations in a modern way, namely via e-mail or WhatsApp. Currently, there is a web-based digital invitation business where you can distribute invitations without leaving home. These Digital Invitations are the best choice for people. All that remains is to send an invitation link to the guests you want to invite to minimize the costs incurred due to invitations and the costs incurred for distributing invitations.
Goals
In this case study, we will focus on understanding users’ behavior and insight and help them solve their problems. The research that we conducted for this project had a goal which is :
Business Goals
1. Being superior to others
2. Get high profits
Research Goals
1. Understand user behavior, issues, and problems from users when ordering and looking for the right digital invitation
2. Understand user needs in making digital invitations
3. Look for other opportunities to be able to compete with existing businesses

Research Methodology
In this research, I have enough time to find the problems and solutions according to user needs, as expected in this business. This research uses three methods :
- Competitor Analysis. A competitive analysis aims to determine competitors’ strengths and weaknesses and prevent competitive threats from entering the business.
- In-Depth Interview. The second stage of the process is used to dig deeper into user information. This helps to know the things that are experienced by the user so that the information obtained is not wrong and better knows what the user’s needs are.
- Usability Testing. To verify whether the design solution proposed can fix the issue and accommodate the users’ need
Competitor Analysis
A competitive analysis aims to determine competitors’ strengths and weaknesses and prevent competitive threats from entering the business. I choose 3 direct competitors, Katsudoto, Viding, and Foreverr, to get insights and room for improvement.
- Katsudoto.id
Katsudoto is a digital invitation vendor from Medan, which was founded in 2018 and has served 16,500+ customers from various regions in Indonesia and neighboring countries. Katsudoto, known for its premium design, will make your invitation even more special.
- Katsudoto has complete features in a digital invitation business, one of his favorite features is Smart Whatsapp. Where many invitations can be sent at once to maximize the time and effort of users who will send invitations.
- There aren’t many invitation templates provided, but they do provide custom invitations and it costs quite a lot.
- The digital guest book is only available in a few locations because they send a team to receive guests at the invitation location.
- There is no mobile application yet, so invitations can only be accessed using the web.
- Payment methods are still limited.
2. Viding.co
Viding is a one Stop Wedding Digitization Platform that makes your wedding more efficient, effective, meaningful, and up-to-date with various services such as Digital Invitations, Digital Guestbooks, E-Gifts, and Cinematic Wedding Live Streaming which you can get at in one package.
- Viding is a digital business that initially only provided live streaming and now has digital invitations.
- The invitation templates provided are very diverse, but many are used in the market
- Digital invitations and digital guest books are separate, so you have to buy both.
- There is no mobile application yet, so invitations can only be accessed using the web.
3. Foreverr.id
Katsudoto is a digital invitation vendor from Medan, which was founded in 2018 and has served 16,500+ customers from various regions in Indonesia and neighboring countries. Katsudoto, known for its premium design, will make your invitation even more special.
- Foreverr is a digital invitation business that has many invitation templates, but many are used in the market
- Orders are still manual, so the team makes invitations without client intervention
- Digital invitation prices are not listed, so it is difficult for clients to compare with others.
- The invitation display is not responsive, only a cellphone display is available
I choose 3 direct competitors, Katsudoto, Viding, and Foreverr, to get insights and room for improvement. Through research, the most common problems are:
- Limited payment methods
- The design is overused
- Overprice
- Don’t have a mobile app yet
In-Depth Interview
The initial survey was conducted to find user demographics for the interview process. The second stage of the process is used to dig deeper into user information. This helps to know the things that are experienced by the user so that the information obtained is not wrong and better knows what the user’s needs are.
Users Criteria & Sampling
• 5 Digital invitations users
• Gender: Male/Female
• Age: 18–31
Empathy Map
After doing interviews, I grouped data into Empathy maps, which helped me group data according to objectives. Since there 5 participants, I create an empathy map.
Ideate
How Might We?
Looking at the opportunities in the user journey maps we define how we possibly create solutions delivered in the HMW format below.
- How do we create small business applications with multiple payment methods?
- How do we make the various template designs more unique and refreshing?
- How do we make digital invitations that are inexpensive and don’t cost much money?
- How do we make a web-based mobile app?
Site Map
I generated the site map with 3 main categories from the user goals and research—home, menu, and account.
User Flow
Here is the user flow that I will create; user flow is the end-to-end app process for a user, which is how users use the product from the beginning until they reach their goal.
Wireframe
Wireframe is a quick and easy way to translate the design from a sketch with minimum effort and less time-consuming.
Design
Design visually represents a final digital product or website, including layout/hierarchy, color, typography, icons, and other UI elements.
You can try Infinite Joy Mobile App prototype here.
Usability Testing
The last stage is to do a test. I use usability testing with early participants, to make it easier and better understand the research process. I made a Usability Testing Plan so that the process is less confusing and more structured so that participants also understand what they have to do in this test.
Based on the Usability Testing provided, the user has successfully completed the four tasks properly without any problems. There are a number of things that need to be fixed, such as the font size, CTA, and also display UI which is not optimal. But overall, the prototype shown can be used properly.
User needs have also been fulfilled in the research and design process, so users are quite satisfied with the things they want. Although there are still many things that need to be improved in the future to make it easier for users to use the mobile app.
Lesson I learned
As a conceptual project, I learned a lot about UX/UI designing, especially some user interface rules, and principles. As a designer, we’re not only responsible for usability, and we also have to make the app aesthetically pleasing by paying attention to spacing, button and font size, visual hierarchy, etc.
Reviewing work that has been completed is also very important because user input is very useful for us as UI/UX designers.
Thank you for visiting. This research process can be helpful to others. I also gladly accept criticism and suggestions on this research. Your comments and directions will be beneficial for me in the future.
